The OptimRES project has successfully completed its midterm review, showcasing meaningful advancements in the development of intelligent tools for optimal planning, bidding, forecasting, and real-time control of hybrid Wind-PV-BESS systems.

During the first reporting period, the consortium—University of Cyprus (UCY), WiseWire, and Aeolian Dynamics—achieved all planned milestones on time and delivered significant scientific and technological results.

Key achievements include:
     • Advanced planning and bidding tools, improving RES-BESS profitability by 4–16% during planning and 5–6% during bidding in day-ahead markets.
     • AI-based forecasting models for wind and solar generation, supporting more accurate operational decisions.
     • A real-time MPC controller that reduces power imbalances by 18% and cuts curtailment by 83%.
     • Deployment of the OptimRES cloud platform and the WiseWire Energy Box, enabling secure, real-time data exchange with all pilot assets.

The project’s pilot sites—comprising a 10.8 MW wind plant, PV systems, and a BESS—are now fully connected to the platform, allowing live monitoring and laying the groundwork for large-scale demonstration activities.

The review confirmed that OptimRES is moving forward as planned and remains fully aligned with its goals: enhancing RES profitability, supporting market participation, and contributing to Cyprus’s energy sustainability and economic resilience.

With the second phase now underway, the consortium is preparing for full integration of smart modules and extensive real-world validation, moving closer to delivering a complete intelligent management solution for hybrid renewable energy systems.
