The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources is transforming electricity systems worldwide, creating new opportunities while also introducing greater operational complexity. Renewable energy operators must continuously manage forecasting uncertainties, market participation strategies, energy storage utilization, and real-time operational decisions to maximize the value of their assets.
The OptimRES project is addressing these challenges through the development of advanced digital solutions for the intelligent management of renewable energy and battery energy storage systems. By combining innovative forecasting, optimization, and control technologies, the project aims to support more efficient, reliable, and economically sustainable operation of hybrid renewable energy installations.
A major outcome of the project is the OptimRES platform, a cloud-based environment that integrates advanced analytics and decision-support capabilities for wind, photovoltaic, and battery storage assets. The platform enables operators to improve situational awareness, optimize operational planning, support market participation decisions, and enhance the overall performance of renewable energy plants.
The platform is currently connected to the project’s pilot infrastructure, which includes wind generation, photovoltaic systems, and battery energy storage assets. Through this operational environment, project partners are evaluating and validating innovative approaches for improving energy management, reducing operational inefficiencies, and increasing the economic value of renewable energy production under real-world conditions.
To showcase these developments, the OptimRES consortium has released a dissemination video presenting the platform’s key functionalities, technological innovations, and pilot demonstrations. The video highlights how advanced digital tools can support renewable energy operators in addressing the challenges of modern electricity markets while improving the controllability and profitability of renewable energy assets.
The OptimRES consortium consists of the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus, WiseWire Energy Solutions, and T.P. Aeolian Dynamics Ltd. Together, the partners are working towards the development of high-impact solutions that facilitate the wider integration of renewable energy resources and energy storage technologies into future power systems.
For T.P. Aeolian Dynamics, participation in OptimRES represents an important opportunity to contribute to the development and validation of next-generation renewable energy management technologies. Through the project, the company is actively involved in demonstrating innovative methodologies that can support smarter operation, improved market participation, and enhanced performance of renewable energy investments.
The project is funded by the Republic of Cyprus and the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation under grant agreement CODEVELOP-REPowerEU/1223/0097 (OptimRES), through the European Union’s NextGenerationEU initiative and the Recovery and Resilience Plan of Cyprus (Cyprus – Tomorrow).
