Empower

EMPOWER brings together all the key stakeholders of the electric energy sector in Cyprus with an ambitious goal to develop sustainable and intelligent technologies and tools for the electric power system of Cyprus. EMPOWER aims at improving the effectiveness of the Cypriot Research, Technological Development, and Innovation (RTDI) through research activities, technological development, and innovation, focusing on the priority area of energy. One of the major goals of EMPOWER is the smart and green evolution of the Cyprus power system infrastructure, which will result to a great socio-economic impact for the entire country.

General Objectives

This project builds on a high quality, complementary and multidisciplinary consortium that will create essential synergies between members of the quadruple helix of the Cyprus economy, build a critical mass of researchers, and develop young scientists for performing high-level research. Such a multidisciplinary consortium can guarantee the successful completion of the project and can contribute significantly to the RTDI strategy of Cyprus leading to sufficient economic development.

T.P. Aeolian Dynamics Ltd is leading work page six (WP6) of the Empower project:

WP6 – Storage solutions

This WP aims to identify the ideal storage solutions that are adequate for the islanded case of Cyprus. Further, the required techno-economic framework for different storage solutions will be developed in order to allow the massive installation of energy storage devices in the Cyprus power system.

This WP will deploy two different novel storage solutions that will be able to compensate the intermittent character of renewables for enabling an even higher penetration of renewables without risking the power system integrity.

The beneficial effects of adopting the proposed novel storage solutions will be proved through the two demonstration pilot sites, which will pave the way for the massive exploitation of the proposed solutions.

Twin EU

TwinEU is a landmark Horizon Europe project designed to transform how Europe’s electricity system is managed and developed. Its central mission is to establish a Pan-European digital twin by connecting a network of local digital twins, creating an integrated view of the continent’s power infrastructure. With the collaboration of 75 organisations from 15 countries and a budget of €20 million, the project brings together expertise from operators, technology companies, and research institutions to strengthen system reliability, security, and efficiency. Over the course of eight demonstration projects in 11 EU countries, TwinEU will apply cutting-edge digital tools for real-time monitoring, smarter forecasting, coordinated grid planning, and enhanced resilience against both physical and cyber threats. By enabling greater integration of renewable energy, supporting electrification, and empowering end-users to participate actively in the energy transition, TwinEU aims to help deliver Europe’s net-zero ambitions while ensuring a robust and future-ready power network.

General Objectives

PARTNERS

TP Aeolian Dynamics Ltd is joining forces with the University of Cyprus to build a virtual replica of Cyprus’s electricity network. This work contributes to a larger scheme aimed at linking the virtual models of mainland Greece, Crete’s autonomous power grid, and the stand-alone system of Cyprus through a comprehensive balancing market optimisation framework.

Aeolian Dynamics will play a key role in designing and testing a prototype platform for balancing market functions, defining the mathematical foundations of market operations, and running diverse scenario-based studies to boost adaptability and operational performance. The outcomes will enable continuous oversight of the interconnected regional grids and support the integration of regional electricity markets across the Eastern Mediterranean.
Watch the following video to discover the TwinEU project, its key objectives, and the vision for a federated network of digital twins across Europe’s electricity system.

OptimRES

The OptimRES project marks the beginning of a dynamic partnership to transform the future of clean energy in Cyprus. Through the creation of an advanced platform, the initiative will maximize the performance of Renewable Energy Sources and Battery Energy Storage Systems, strengthen the business case for sustainable investments, and actively drive the nation’s transition toward a low-carbon future. By integrating innovative technologies and forward-thinking strategies, OptimRES strives to deliver measurable environmental benefits while fostering long-term energy resilience and economic growth.

General Objectives

This project is built on the close cooperation between the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, H. Wise Wire Energy Solution Ltd, and T.P. Aeolian Dynamics Ltd. With these partnerships, OptimRES will not only achieve its technical aims but will also drive new technology and strengthen Cyprus’s ability to innovate, ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.

OMRES

OMRES, a project co-funded by the European Union, unites leading European institutions and industry partners to accelerate the transition toward a cleaner and smarter energy future. With a shared vision to enhance the performance, resilience, and lifetime of Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems (HRES), the project develops cutting-edge digital tools for forecasting, diagnostics, control, and optimization. By implementing an advanced digital twin framework, OMRES will transform the way wind, solar, and energy storage systems are monitored and operated—maximizing efficiency, enabling predictive maintenance, and supporting grid stability in the evolving energy landscape.

General Objectives

Built on the expertise of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary consortium from Cyprus, Denmark, and France, OMRES ensures that research excellence meets real-world energy challenges. Through this collaboration, the project will deliver solutions with tangible socio-economic and environmental benefits, driving progress toward a sustainable energy future.
