Summer program “University student for a week” of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth and Frederick University

In the framework of the summer interactive program on the theme “University student for a week” between June 6 and 9, 2023, with the participation of pupils from Technical Schools, which was co-organized by the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training (STEEK) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth (MOEC) and Frederick University organized an educational visit to the Aeolian Dynamics Wind Farm on June 8.

The visit to the wind farm was attended students from Technical Schools from Nicosia and Limassol, who study in the fields of Applied Arts, Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering and Electronic Applications, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture and Civil Engineering.

The students had the opportunity to be guided around the wind farm facilities and observed in real conditions all the stages of the electricity production and transmission up to the transmission network. A special presentation on renewable energy sources captivated their attention, with a particular focus on wind energy, wind turbines, and how electricity is generated using the power of the wind. Safety was emphasized as well, as the students were educated on the essential rules for working at heights and the proper use of personal protective equipment.

We thank Frederick University for the initiative to organize the students’ visit to the Aeolian Dynamics Wind Park and especially professors Nicholas Christofides, Alexis Polykarpou and Photos Vryonides for their participation, the excellent collaboration, and helping us to have a pleasant and safe visit.
